TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Following the “Clear the Shelters,” event, the Terre Haute Humane Society completed a busy weekend with over a dozen cats and dogs adopted.
The Humane Society’s Intake Coordinator, Stacy Wilkins, said they had 15 total adoptions and one animal was returned to its owner. She said plenty of people also expressed interest in adopting down the line.
“They’ll come back and they’ll look, or they’ll keep looking at the website for maybe something that they’re looking for. A certain particular dog or a certain particular cat, they’ll keep us in mind and they’ll keep checking,” she said.
Wilkins said the shelter was struggling with capacity, with around 200 animals currently there. She said every adoption makes an impact.
“Everyone that goes out the door makes a difference. It helps,” she said. “It gives us another kennel, or another spot in the free roam the room to put a cat.”
Wilkins said they received three more cats on Sunday, and hopes events like “Clear the Shelters” can help raise awareness for their animals.
“Don’t ever forget about these shelters and these animals,” Wilkins said. “They all have stories, some of them are amazing stories. all these animals and they all deserve good homes.”
