VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Knox County officials met to finalize a $2.4 million spending plan for 2023 after months of discussions.
Here are projects slated to receive the money, listed from the largest to the smallest:
- $900,000 for the county’s parks department for a variety of repairs and improvements
- $482,613 for equipment of a nursing simulation lab at Good Samaritan Hospital
- $400,000 to the county drainage board for improvements
- $289,000 for renovations and furnishings for the county’s health department
- $262,900 to the county maintenance department to replace fan coils
- $50,000 to the county fair board for to improve sewage equipment
- $50,000 to KCARC for a childcare center
- $30,000 to veteran services for a transport van
- $25,000 for “renovation of facilities”
- $10,000 in legal and administrative costs
The number for the parks department is fluid, as the total costs for the repairs is not yet known.
The commissioner’s heard pitches from residents over the course of several meetings in the second half of 2022. President Kellie Streeter said it made for a difficult, but worthwhile, process.
“We decided to take a little spin and really put ourselves on the hot seat so to say, it was worth it,” she said. “It was difficult at times, especially when you have to tell someone no, so it is a good feeling of relief to have the process over.”
The county still has money left over from the American Rescue Plan funding. Streeter said they have not yet determined how exactly it will be used.
“We have approximately $700,000 left,” she said. “We have until 2024 to derive the remaining plan of expenditure, so as we mentioned, there’s some things up in the air with our parks system, as well as some county facilities that are going to be vacated in the near future.”
