ROACHDALE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A landfill, under fire from nearby community members, released a statement Friday and said it supports more testing from the state.
Heritage Environmental Services is located in Roachdale, Indiana in Putnam County. It has been receiving dirt from the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment.
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb announced earlier this week, he’s directing his administration to contract a third party provider to immediately test the materials.
The company said it supports the proposed testing from the governor and will also continue to work with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
Heritage Environmental Services has come under have fire from some local residents concerned about the dirt hurting their community.

Heritage Environmental Services Supports Testing Announcements
ROACHDALE, IN. (March 3, 2023) – We are saddened by the tragedy in East Palestine, Ohio and are pleased that we have the expertise and facility to assist in the cleanup. Heritage Environmental Services welcomes today’s announcement that the EPA will be testing onsite in East Palestine. Our company value is, “safe and compliant… or not at all!” Our intention now, and always, is to operate within the laws and regulations that govern our business.
We also support the testing that Governor Holcomb has announced. We have been in communication with the Governor’s Office and Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) and will continue to work with IDEM and Governor Holcomb to provide a plan that is protective of human health and the environment, which is our purpose as a company and a neighbor.
