FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Customers who purchase electricity through Duke Energy can expect to see lower prices next month after the company announced another rate decrease.
According to Duke Energy Spokesperson Angeline Protogere, a 3.2% rate decrease was approved Wednesday by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
The decrease will go into effect on July 1.
“Just in time for summer when customers typically use more power to cool their homes,” Protogere said.
The decrease is the third consecutive decrease this year.
“Since January, electric rates for Duke Energy Indiana’s average residential customer have dropped approximately 25%, or about $40 a month, due to declining fuel and purchased power costs,” Protogere added.
According to Duke Energy, Indiana utilities adjust rates four times a year to accommodate changing fuel costs, and fuel rate adjustments are not permanent.
“Fuel costs rise and fall, and we pass those costs to our customers with no profit, so customers pay what we pay,” Protogere said.
