KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Phase one expansion on a local county jail is finally completed.
The Knox County Jail had an exciting day Sunday, as citizens got to tour the completed areas of the Knox County Jail. The completed area of its expansion, is the garage, booking area, and holding cells.
Two other phases still yet to be completed are the jail holding pods, and the work release center.
Knox County Sheriff Doug Vantlin said the expansion is to help with overcrowding.
“As everyone knows we are overcrowded. This is going to open up 26 beds to our existing facility. So, it’s going to help alleviate a lot of that,” Vantlin said.
Phase two and three are expected to be completed by the end of December 2023.
