SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Downtown Sullivan will be filled with community members and visitors this week as they kick of the 66th annual Corn Festival.
The festival, put on by the Sullivan Rotary Club, will run from September 20-23.
Along with the rides and the food, this years festival will feature David Lee Murphy, as well as Elton John and Billy Joel tributes and others for the nightly concert.
Sullivan Mayor Clint Lamb said after all the community has been through, it’s going to be wonderful to see everyone come together.
“We’re still mourning the losses but at the same time, we’re celebrating the recovery. It’s so much more than a festival, it really is. It’s a time for the spirit of Sullivan to come together and just shine,” Lamb said.
Lamb said the corn festival serves as a way for people to reunite with people they haven’t seen in years.
“The corn festival kind of represents homecoming week, it brings a lot of folks back to the community that maybe have moved away over the years, you have a lot of class reunions, things like that going on. So it’s great to see everyone home celebrating this amazing, wonderful tradition,” Lamb said.
The carnival rides start at 5 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. for each nightly show.
It is $20 for a ticket to the performance each night, or you can buy a four day pass for $35.
The parade will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. with the free corn feed to follow.
