TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A decades-old tradition continued in the Wabash Valley Friday one donut at a time.
The Salvation Army in Terre Haute celebrated National Donut Day by serving donuts in Gilbert Park.
The day was started by the Salvation Army back in 1938 to honor the Donut Lassies who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.
“It’s our day now to go out into the community and again, we’re trying to put smiles on people’s faces, give them a touch of home, make them feel good about who they are and what they’re doing,” says volunteer Roy Linden.
The Salvation Army thanks Square Donuts for donating the sweets for the event.
