FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — With 4th of July weekend being upon us, Indiana State Police said this is set to be one of the busiest traffic weekends of the year.
Sgt. Matt Ames said that during this time last year, they had 14 fatalities and over 2400 accidents. He said that as traffic picks up, it is always important to always be fully aware of your surroundings and have a co-driver that is fully awake and responsive.
Ames says that ISP, along with local stations, plan to increase the number of patrolling officers for the weekend.
“The Indiana State Police along with other local law enforcement agencies are definitely going to have extra patrols going on,” Ames said. “Not just on the day, but all the way until Monday at noon to make sure we are providing the safest roadways.”
He added that if you do plan to consume alcohol, have a designated driver assigned before you reach your destination.
