SHELBURN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Shelburn Police Department gave out free school supplies Sunday, just in time for the kid’s first day of school.
The “Back to School Supply Give Out” was put on by the Shelburn Police Reserve Association. They handed out supplies to everyone in Sullivan County, not just residents of the town.
The department also grilled food for the families and had a balloon animal tent.
Town Marshall Matthew Price says events like this help kids that will be the future of this community.
“The kids are our future right, like literally, right. They are the ones that are going to come back, we get them educated, we give them the things that they need to thrive and then they come back as an adult and contribute back to our society and contribute to our community. That is how we build our community strong and cohesion between each other.”

The department had a list of every grade’s needs at each school and made sure every kid was prepared for day one.
