TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — For the first time ever, Midwestern Traveler published a “Best in Indiana” edition. From recreation to education, Terre Haute shows it can attract visitors from all around the Midwest.
Midwestern Traveler magazine named Terre Haute best in the Hoosier state for two categories. The first honor awarded was “Best College Town”, which Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau executive director Karen Dyer says all four higher education institutions in the city played a role in.
“We’ve always known Terre Haute was a great college town, and now everybody else knows it,” Dyer said. “We’re really fortunate to have this accolade for our community. Our colleges are a vital part of our tourism industry and everything that happens here from our downtown to our sporting events. They are involved in a lot of what we do.”
Hulman Links was also named “Best Recreational Golf Course”, and Terre Haute mayor Brandon Sakbun says it will see some improvements in the near future.
“We are going to make some increased investments into the golf course, fixing some of the little things,” Sakbun said. “The cart paths, the course quality itself as this award shows is second-to-none, and I encourage all visitors, all residents to go and check out Hulman Links and we are looking forward to more development in and around our golf courses.”
Officials say that they are excited for the recognition to welcome new faces to Terre Haute. The inagural “Best in Indiana” edition of the magazine will be issued in October.
