SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A local sports complex received help Thursday from the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility’s Labor Line Crew.
Four incarcerated individuals volunteered to be a part of this crew. They painted around 300 parking curbs on Thursday at the Sullivan County Youth Sports Complex.
Sports Complex President Jesse Fifer said the yellow paint will make the parking curbs easier for visitors to the sports complex to see.
Robert Ray is part of the Labor Line Crew and said they look forward to opportunities like this to give back to the community.
“It gets us away from the prison scenery. It gives us something to look forward to and actually get better at something so when we do get out of prison, we’re more capable, more reliable of doing something different as work,” said Ray.
Fifer said the sports complex is very appreciative of their help.
“Being able to get the Labor Line Crew out here to take some of that pressure off on jobs that we know we need to do, that we’ve got to find time to do, technically we really don’t have time to do, but they take a lot of the pressure off of us, trying to get stuff like this done,” Fifer said.
Ray said other projects they’ve helped with include disaster relief in Sullivan County and painting buildings in Merom.
