Vigo County, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — This weekend, Fowler Park is hosting the 52nd annual Pioneer Days.
This event lets visitors experience early 1800s life in Indiana.
Pioneer Days is an annual event put on by the Vigo County Parks Department.
It’s a lot of fun to come out and enjoy the historical aspect of it, seeing the live reenactments. Not many that still happen around the state or around the country so getting to see everything firsthand and learn about our Indiana history.
Heather Cosme Milian – Natural Resource Programmer
Guests get to experience a number of activities and demonstrations from Pioneer Days workers, including how they made food, cut wood, and created tools centuries ago. One worker says visitors enjoy a certain aspect of the event the most.
Anything they can get their hands on or anything they can try, like for the oven. We’ve been giving them samples, so they really like that.
Nicholas Kerr – Pioneer Days Volunteer
The event has been around for over five decades now, meaning that people that first came to the event as kids, are now bringing their own. Kerr says Pioneer Days, for him, is a family tradition.
It’s been kind of a family tradition for me since I was probably 12 or 13 years old. I came out here with my grandpa and my uncle. My wife and I volunteer out here with our son.

Activities will be going on from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
Parking is $5 per car, but everything else at the park is free of charge.
