TERRE HAUTE Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — One local elementary school is accepting donations for their student holiday store.
Fuqua Elementary is looking for new and gently-used items that would make good small gifts. This can include candles, coffee cups, household items, lotion, blankets, toys, jewelry and much more. School social worker Heidi Gresham says the items need to be small enough for a student to carry on the bus and not sharp or breakable.
“Our kids are really excited to get gifts for their family members, and it’s really a bonding experience for staff too, because they will talk about their family members and what they like,” Gresham said. “The idea was that they would get a gift and put it under their Christmas tree and wait for Christmas morning, but most of them give the gift that day as soon as they get home. They cannot wait, they’re so excited.”
The event is free to all students at the school and they are taking donations until December 1.
