Second Update Cumberland County, Ill. (WTWO) Monday 5:45 a.m. — According to IDOT Public Information Officer, Paul Wappel all lanes of I-70 are now open in both directions after a multi-vehicle accident in Cumberland County.
According to Illinois State Police, Troop 9 responded to the location of I-70 Eastbound and milepost 124 in Cumberland County to the report of multiple crashes involving multiple vehicles.
The preliminary investigation states that a combined total of 38 vehicles were damaged. The report notes that most of the units were CMVs (CMVs or Commercial Motor Vehicles are said to be over 10,000 pounds generally.)
Vehicles that could be removed were removed Sunday night.
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation Public Information Office, Paul Wappel, as a result of the crashes, I-70 was closed in both directions.
As of 3:08 Central Time, ISP confirmed all lanes have reopened.
One injury was reported, but the severity of the injury was unknown at the time of the media release.
The investigations into the crash are ongoing.
Update (WTWO) 9:00 p.m. — A spokesperson with the Illinois Department of Transportation told WTWO that both Eastbound lanes of I-70 and one westbound lane remain closed near mile marker 124.
There is no word yet on any injuries.
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois State Police are actively responding to a crash on I-70 in Cumberland County involving multiple vehicles.
According to State Police, I-70 eastbound in Cumberland County is currently closed and traffic is being diverted to U.S. Route 40. The crash happened near milepost 124 around 1:30 p.m.
State Police also said, “multiple traffic crashes” were reported, “involving multiple units.”
According to State Police, this is an active crash scene and there is currently no additional information available at this time.
