TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Vigo County Sheriff Derek Fell has released more information on the shooting that occurred on Wednesday evening in Richland Manor Subdivision.
According to Sheriff Fell, at approximately 6:38 p.m. Vigo County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shots fired call, in Richland Manor subdivision.
According to the homeowner, Manish Gera, 54, he stated he had just arrived home and noticed a vehicle follow him into his driveway. According to Sheriff Fell, the suspect, identified as Andre Obua, 28, of Miami, Florida shot at the homeowner with a handgun, from his vehicle.
Gera told officers, that the suspect exited his vehicle, went into the garage area, and fired another shot at Gera, striking him in the arm. Obua allegedly returned to his vehicle, retrieving an additional firearm. Both Gera and Obua then engaged in a physical altercation.
Sheriff Fell noted that another member of the residence contacted 911.
Deputies arrived on the scene and immediately were able to detain Obua and began on-scene first aid measures, according to Fell.
Gera was transported to Union Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Obua is currently being charged with attempted murder, criminal recklessness, strangulation, and burglary.
