CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — No injuries are reported after a house fire causes a building to completely collapse in Clay County Saturday afternoon.
The fire happened just off of 10785 Boat Dock Rd. in Poland, IN.
According to the Poland Assistant Fire Chief, residents had previously boarded their chimney in the spring due to a bat problem in the home. Residents had forgotten about the closed chimney and started a fire in the fireplace this afternoon.
Within a few minutes, the residents reported smoke coming back into the home. The fire completely destroyed the house.
Residents made it out of the house safely, and no injuries were reported.
