TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Special Olympics Indiana is gearing up for spring events, leading up to the summer games. It’s doing so with some help from inmates at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility.
They spent Friday morning building bocce ball courts and they’re making additional courts this year. That’s because Special Olympics Indiana was able to expand its bocce ball opportunities to allow more athletes to play in the spring games leading up to the summer games.
“I just like being out here, getting things done, staying busy. And, it’s giving back to something at least, doing more than what I would be doing if I was just in my dorm right now,” said Conrad Spangler Pearson, inmate at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility.
Special Olympics Indiana’s Director of Sports and Competitions, Katie Hilt said, they’re extremely grateful for this partnership.
