TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Wednesday morning, the Vigo County Capital Improvement Board continued discussions, regarding potential renovations of the Indiana Theatre.
Vigo County Commissioner Chris Switzer said that they proposed a 4-million-dollar project to get a new roof, needed masonry work, interior lobby improvements, new bathrooms, and other general maintenance. The proposal involves funding the project with food and beverage tax dollars, because CIB members said they want to use that money to continue to fund tourism.
Switzer said while nothing is set in stone, and they are hoping the community will back this project.
“The more important question is does the community support spending 4 million dollars on the building via food and beverage funds that multiple people from all of the state are paying for as they travel through the community purchasing drinks or food and move forward that route,” said Switzer. “If not, we will go in a different direction but right now, that is where we are at.”
This process this still ongoing and ultimately, this project will have to get approval by the Vigo County Council to move forward.
