TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute man is in jail after a police pursuit Thursday evening.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. near 22nd St. and First Ave in Terre Haute.
According to a media release, officers with the Terre Haute Police Department (THPD) attempted to conduct a traffic stop for multiple violations. The release states that the driver briefly complied but fled as the officer approached the vehicle. This led to a short vehicle pursuit.
According to THPD, the suspect abandoned the vehicle near 22nd St and Seventh Ave and attempted to escape on foot. Officers quickly established a perimeter, and a K9 named Kick was deployed to track the suspect. The track led officers several blocks away to an overgrown backyard with multiple abandoned vehicles. That’s where K9 Kick located the suspect hiding.
The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Roy M. Roberts of Terre Haute, surrendered without incident as K9 Kick approached. Roberts was placed under arrest and transported to the Vigo County Jail and faces the following charges:
- Resisting Law Enforcement
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Possession of Marijuana
- Reckless Driving
- Operating with a Suspended License
