MEROM, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Indiana Conservation officers are investigating the wreck of an off-road vehicle (ORV) that occurred just after 8 p.m. on Thursday.
According to a news release, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department received a call Thursday night stating that the ORV had collided with a truck on Third Street north of State Road 58. The release stated that Witnesses observed the ORV driving recklessly at a high rate of speed just before the wreck.
The driver of the ORV, 29-year-old Timothy J. Porras of Merom, was ejected from the vehicle and required a airlift to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis and was in serious condition.
The release states that no safety equipment was used before the incident and that alcohol could have played a part. The incident is still currently under investigation. The Indiana Conservation Officers want to remind everyone to always wear a helmet, protective riding gear, and use all safety restraints when operating an ORV.
