TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A night full of food, drinks and entertainment all for a good cause is coming to the Hulman Center this weekend.
Saturday night, the Hulman Center will be filled with people taking a trip around the world via food, drinks and dessert from six different countries.
This is all a part of the Terre Haute Women’s Club Cruise for Shoes Event.
“This is our third year for Cruise for Shoes and so you get local restaurants that provide us with food and drinks. A tasting from different countries. So, it’s sort of a cruise theme. You come into the Hulman Center, and you get a passport and then you make your way around the concourse and get a little food sampling and drink sampling from six different countries,” said Heather Wolf, Terre Haute Women’s Club Publicity Chair.
Wolf said they chose this theme because it makes this event more enjoyable for the guest.
“It seems like events now are more experiential versus like buying stuff all the time, with the art that we’ve had for so many years and similar people came. So, it’s just nice to have something different to do and an evening out is so fun with the dueling pianos and food and drink,” said Wolf.
The money raised from Saturday’s event will go towards the Terre Haute Women’s Club Shoe Bus Project. The Shoe Bus Project is a bus that was designed to be a mobile shoe store that provides children in need with shoes.
“Our members ride the shoe bus once a week during the school year. Measure the kids and make sure they have enough room to grow in there. Get them a brand-new pair of athletic shoes and two pairs of socks,” said Wolf.
Janel Quillin said she drives the Shoe Bus around four times a year and said it brings her so much joy to help these children out.
“It just means a lot. It warms my heart… Some of them run off the bus jumping cause some of the shoes light up. So, they love to see that,” said Quillin.
This event is the Terre Haute Women’s Club’s biggest fundraiser for the Shoe Bus and Wolf said it is so important to provide these kids with shoes because it keeps them in school.
“We have had kids in the wintertime we’ve seen with things where they’ve got, you know, their shoes are taped together or their wearing crocs, open sandals, in the snow. It’s just terrible. So, they will stay home sometimes. We’ve had kids where they are sharing a pair of shoes with a sibling. The main goal is to boost their self-esteem and keep them in school daily,” said Wolf.
