TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Wednesday evening, Vigo County Sheriff Fell announced his candidacy for the 2026 election.
Former Chief of Operations Derek Fell was sworn into office in August of 2024. This was after the passing of former Sheriff John Plasse. Fell has worked with the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department for 23 years.
He says his future plans are focusing on community engagement, safety for Vigo County and its citizens, along with law enforcement, and programs for the jail.
“Any successes in my career, I have to give credit to everyone that I’ve served with, who’s served beside me, who’s served before me,” said Vigo County Sheriff Derek Fell. “I’ve leaned on a lot of people throughout my career. So, I truly give credit to all those who’s served at the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office. I don’t believe that any one person is responsible for achieve and success. I believe it’s a team effort.”
The election will be during the month of May in 2026.
