LINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Stacy Burris and her family and friends will enjoy the 119th Linton Freedom Festival Parade from Burris’ front yard.
“It’s definitely an honor to live on the parade route,” said Stacy Burris.
She knew when she bought her home she would always be decorating for the Fourth of July.
“We start any projects we have about 3 months ahead of time. We really want to make sure our yard is perfect. My husband is pretty obsessed with the grass,” added Burris. “We have family and friends who all gather here. We set up all throughout the yard with tents and chairs.”
The parade is steeped in tradition. Marching bands, floats and representation by the military can always be found. There’s usually several baseball and softball teams honored as well. According to the Indiana State Festivals Association, the parade brings almost 40,000 people to Linton.
The Linton Chamber of Commerce organizers the annual event. Planning for it starts almost immediately after July 4th.
“We do a post event rundown and I tell everybody on the committee to bring me your good your bad and your ugly,” said Executive Director of the Linton Chamber of Commerce Cheryl Hamilton.
The parade is considered the largest Fourth of July parade in Indiana with 170 entries expected. The parade begins at 10 a.m. Friday. If you can’t see it in person, you can watch it on WTWO or livestreaming on this website.
