TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — It’s a big weekend in Terre Haute, as Indiana State University celebrates Homecoming.
The festivities kick off Friday night with the Trike Race event, where student organizations compete in a serious, organized race on adult tricycles. Then Saturday morning, things will kick off with the Blue and White Homecoming Parade down Wabash Avenue. This year, the parade will have a sensory-friendly section on the corner of 5th and Cherry.
That will be followed by the tailgating event at Memorial Stadium, which will then lead up to the football game.
“We have some exciting things happening at our alumni association tailgate this year that we haven’t had before. So, we’ll have a bounce house and a couple of carnival rides. We’re also going to have a trivia game that will take place throughout the tailgate,” Executive Director of ISU Alumni Association P.J. Thompson said.
Officials say these events are exciting for the students and the community.
“The students love coming out to homecoming week events. This is a truly probably one of the largest traditions that I have the honor participating in,” Student Engagement Associate Director Nicole Hagney said.
“This is the time that they’re building those memories that when they are alums of this institution 3 years from now, 5 years from now, 20 years from now they’ll remember these moments,” Associate Vice President for Student Experience and Engagement Ardell Sanders said.
