TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — As the temperatures continue to fall, Indiana Governor Mike Braun has proclaimed the week of November 9 through 15 as Winter Weather Preparedness Week.
A cold and snowy winter is nothing new for Hoosiers. That’s why the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and Governor Braun are taking steps to prepare Hoosiers for the hazards of severe winter weather, while snow is—luckily—still out of our forecast.
“Winter storms can be unpredictable, but preparation can make all the difference,” said Jonathan Whitham, Executive Director of IDHS. “By assembling emergency kits, winterizing vehicles and staying informed of changing weather conditions with the travel advisory map, Hoosiers can greatly reduce their risk and stay safe when severe weather strikes.”
The Department of Homeland Security said during Winter Weather Preparedness Week, it will share daily tips and resources to help Hoosiers get ready for the winter months.
The department said it will give Hoosiers tips on emergency kits, heating safety, travel precautions and how to stay informed during weather emergencies.
