TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Indiana Department of Health has approved the Certificate of Public Advantage (COPA) application for Union Health Hospital to acquire Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
A COPA application was submitted by Union Health and Terre Haute Regional Hospital in February. The application would combine the two facilities.
The move was announced Sunday afternoon by Gov. Mike Braun.
This is a developing story. We will have more information as it becomes available.
State leaders and Unions Health officials comment on COPA approval:
“The result of this merger will be lower prices and more healthcare services available to residents of Terre Haute and Vigo County because of the strict operating terms and conditions that Union accepted,” said Indiana Gov. Braun. “This will bring long-term improvement to the community’s health outcomes.”
“This is an exciting moment for the two health systems, co-workers, patients and the community,” said Steve Holman, President and CEO of Union Health. “This merger provides more than just the combination of existing resources; it is an opportunity for growth, expanded services and improved health outcomes for those we serve.”
“We know this is this right decision and is in the best interest of our community, ensuring care close to home for generations to come,” Holman said.
“For generations, both Union Health and Terre Haute Regional Hospital have been committed to caring for our community,” said Molly Callahan, Chair – Union Health Board of Directors. “Now, with COPA approval, we can not only combine those resources but expand the quality of health care we provide – all while allowing our patients to stay close to home.”
“We are pleased that Union Health’s Certificate of Public Advantage (COPA) application to acquire Terre Haute Regional Hospital has been approved by the Indiana Department of Health, which will help maintain access to healthcare for residents of the Wabash Valley. We appreciate our colleagues’ patience and continued dedication to serving our patients throughout this process,” said HCA
