TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Former Terre Haute Police Chief Shawn Keen is sharing his thoughts as he prepares to take on a new role with the Westfield Police Department.
As previously reported, this coming spring Keen will serve as the chief of police in Westfield, Indiana, where the current police chief is retiring.
Keen has worked with the Terre Haute Police Department since 1998. He was appointed police chief in 2019 and filled that role until the start of this year, when Kevin Barrett was appointed to the position.
Keen said there’s a lot of growth in Westfield, both within the community, and the police department. He looks forward to this new opportunity, but he adds it is bittersweet.
“I’ve worked with some of these guys and gals almost 26 years now, so I’ve got a lot of memories,” Keen said. “It’s going to be hard not seeing them every day but I’ll definitely be not too far away, but I’m excited for the opportunity.”
Keen will take on his new role on April 8.
Current THPD Chief Kevin Barrett said that Keen was a great leader in his time as chief.
“During his time with the Terre Haute Police Department, Shawn has demonstrated exemplary leadership, dedication, and commitment to serving our community,” Barrett said. “His contributions have been invaluable, and he leaves behind a legacy of excellence. While we will miss Shawn’s presence, we are thrilled for him as he embarks on this new chapter in his career. We have no doubt that his passion for law enforcement and his unwavering dedication will make a positive impact in Westfield.”
