INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — In a dramatic back-and-forth game the Seton Hall Pirates defeated the Indiana State Sycamores by a final score of 79-77 to take the NIT Championship.
ISU mounted multiple comebacks throughout the game and took a 7-point lead with three minutes remaining. However, the pirates of Seton Hall would not go down easily and with a late surge took a 2-point lead in the final seconds of the game. Great defensive play in the final 8 seconds secured the victory for the Pirates.
Seton Hall had three players hit double-digit scoring in the victory. Al-Amir Dawes led all scorers with 24 points in the game for the Pirates. Kadary Richmond contributed 21 to the victory, followed by Dre Davis’ 18 points.
Indiana State was led offensively by Isaiah Swope who scored 19, followed by Julian Larry’s 18, and Robbie Avila and Jayson Kent who each had 13.
The loss means Indiana State will finish the season with a record of 32 wins and 7 losses.
While ISU was unable to get the win, the game marked the end of a historic and very successful season overall.
