RILEY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Earlier this week, construction started back up on Riley Trail.
This was made possible due to ARPA Funds and Next Level Trail grants acquired by Vigo County. Crews are currently in the process of grading, culvert replacement, and crosswalk construction.
Vigo County commissioner Mark Clinkenbeard said that he hopes projects like these bring people to the area.
“These types of quality-of-life projects are important to communities because they get people out, walking around, and enjoying the weather,” he said. “It just makes our community more attractive to incoming people and people who work here.”
Clinkenbeard added that these are the opportunities funds like these creates.
“The ARPA grants, we couldn’t do a project like this without using some ARPA funds and the Next Level Trails, it would take years,” he said. “It would simply not be feasible without those grants to get these projects done.”
Clinkenbeard said that the end goal of this project is to connect Riley Trail to Rea Park.
