KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Kira Dent is running on the Republican ticket for Knox County Coroner.
Dent is a family nurse practitioner.
She said there are several reasons why she is running for coroner, but the most important is her passion for the community she grew up in and now raises her own kids in.
Dent said that as coroner, she would work to maintain a competent and efficient partnership with all police and fire departments, the hospital, forensic pathologists, and others.
If elected, Dent said she’ll see that the coroner’s office is more visible and more involved in the community. She hopes to implement programs and speak at events on topics like mental health, overdoses, seatbelts, and more to prevent accidents and death.
Dent said as a medical professional, her training to collect evidence and draw a conclusion and develop a plan would help her to be a competent coroner.
“Working in trauma and emergency medicine as I have done the majority of my career, I treat patients and families during the most unfortunate and tragic times of their lives, and when doing so, I always utilize compassion, integrity, and respect,” Dent said.
Indiana’s primary election is on Tuesday, May 7.
