TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — At least one person was flown from the scene of a crash on U.S. 41 south of Terre Haute.
UPDATE FROM VIGO COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE:
On Monday, June 3rd 2024, at approximately 4:15pm, deputies were dispatched to the area of US 41 south and Howard Wayne Dr for a motor vehicle crash with entrapment and injury.
Preliminary investigation and witness statements show that vehicle 1, occupied by a driver and a passenger, attempted to cross US 41 from the Dollar General as vehicle 2 was southbound on US 41. The two vehicles crashed into each other which caused the driver of vehicle 1 to be injured and trapped inside. The passenger was also injured.
The driver of vehicle 2 was not trapped, but was also injured from the crash.
Honey Creek Fire was able to extricate driver 1 from the vehicle utilizing the jaws of life. Driver 1 was then flown by IU Health Lifeline to an Indianapolis Hospital for further medical treatment. The two others were transported by Transcare Ambulance to local hospitals for further medical treatment.
No current medical condition is known for any of the injured at this time.

The crash caused both north and southbound lanes of U.S. 41 to be shut down to traffic for a time. The crash occurred early in the 4 p.m. hour on Monday at the entrance of the Cobblestone Crossing apartment complex.

An air ambulance landed on the roadway as at least one injured person was taken from the scene. A WTWO Photographer on scene noted that at least two vehicles were involved in the crash.
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office has reportedly taken the lead on investigating the crash.
