Vincennes, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Knox County Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Watermelon Festival this weekend.
It is a way to celebrate the summer with juicy watermelons, exciting activities, and live entertainment.
Knox County holds this festival every year, right before students go back to school. Knox County Chamber of Commerce president says the tradition stems from the county’s rich history in agriculture.
“It is kind of our homage to what Knox County is all about and it is about agriculture, which leads us to watermelons. Today is just our kind of end of summer bash, before the kids go back to school. We’ve had the watermelon festival for many years, so now we are just here, we are ready to celebrate.”
Jamie Neal – Knox County Chamber of Commerce President
Although watermelon is the theme of the festival, there are a variety of vendors taking part. From food to clothes to toys, you can find it all. One vendor says this is her favorite event of the year.
“Festivals like this, this is a really good one, probably my most favorite out of the entire year because it is like an end of the summer type of event. They have great activities for kids and adults, great food, just a really fun environment for everyone.”
Gena Drake – Vendor
This year, the Chamber of Commerce put together a list of events taking place at the festival. These include a free concert, watermelon eating content, and, of course, the much-anticipated watermelon pageant.
