BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An 18-year-old man from Cloverdale was arrested Saturday after he led Indiana State Police on a high-speed pursuit where speeds exceeded 120 miles per hour, according to a press release.
Indiana State Police said Probationary Trooper Logan McDowell was patrolling I-69 in Bloomington when he attempted to initiate a traffic stop after a black Audi A4S was traveling northbound at more than 100 miles per hour.
The driver, later identified as Kyle J. Sims, refused to stop and attempted to evade the trooper, leading to a high-speed pursuit where speeds exceeded 120 miles per hour. At one point, Sims also attempted to turn off his vehicle lights to evade the trooper, according to police.
The vehicle exited the interstate at the Sample Road ramp and finally came to a stop. At that point, Probationary Trooper McDowell then initiated a traffic stop. Along with Sims, two additional passengers were inside the vehicle.
Sims was then arrested and transported to the Monroe County Jail, where he was charged with resisting law enforcement (a level 6 felony) and reckless driving (a class C misdemeanor).
