VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Health Connection of Pace Community Action Agency announced they received almost double the donations in this year’s Pad and Tampon Drive.
According to a news release, Health Connection was able to collect and distribute 49,124 menstrual hygiene products throughout the community. They announced that this is nearly double the amount donated from the previous year’s drive. Health Connection wants to thank all those who helped make this milestone possible.
“This incredible outpouring of support truly demonstrates the compassion and unity within our community,” said Dr. Michelle Pitcher, Clinical Services Director. “Together, we are helping eliminate period poverty and promote health equity for those who need it most.”
Health Connection said it remains committed to empowering communities through programs that promote health, wellness, and equity. They said that the success of the drive demonstrates the strength of community partnership and care.
“We are so grateful for everyone who contributed, whether by donating, spreading the word, or hosting collect boxes,” added Dr. Pitcher. “Together, we are breaking down stigma, fostering compassion, and ensuring that no one has to choose between basic necessities and their health.”
Pace stated that the drive is to address menstrual poverty and promote health equity. A previous news release noted that this year’s drive specifically focused on ensuring students in local schools have the supplies they need to manage their menstrual health with dignity, confidence, and comfort.
Health Connection stated that menstrual poverty continues to impact education, wellness, and opportunity. Twenty percent of girls in the U.S. have missed school due to a lack of access to menstrual products. Pace believes this is a barrier that should never stand between a student and their education. They stated that when students have the necessary resources, they can focus on learning, thriving, and participating with fewer interruptions.
Health Connection offers a range of services, including health education, preventive health exams, STI testing, pregnancy testing, and more, to improve health outcomes and support individuals and families across our region.
