Spirit of America: The Historic National Road

The National Road, a lifelong dream of George Washington, was constructed in 1811 and greatly reduced the distance of travel between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, contributing to the development of many cities and towns, including those in Clark County, IL, where three versions of the road can still be seen today.
